FUEL PROBLEMS!!!!

Last night as I was driving down the road (going 30mph) my check engine light came on! (BTW the VAFC is not installed) I pulled over and checked the error code. I got error code 45 (system to lean or too rich)I'm not sure whether or not its lean or rich. Since I wont be having my guages installed with in the next couple of days, I need help. Could somone please tell me how to find out if its lean or rich. I currently have a temporary Autometer air/fuel tapping off of the O2 sensor. I hae no idea how to read it.
At idle the meter drops below the lean zone, then it bounces back and forth between lean, and rich. During normal acceleraton the meter still just bounces back and forth between lean, and rich. When I floor the car, four green bars light up in the rich zone. When I let off the throttle the meter reads one red bar, or none. What does this mean?!?!?!?!
BTW my car currenty has the stock Jackson fuel crap in it. I have new fuel items to be installed, but I am waiting for the J&S unit.

that sounds right....as long as the light is the last green at WOT.....
you might be running too rich....check your plugs to see if they are black...if so...too rich.....but a nice tan color is what you want....

Yeah... 4 greens into rich may be too rich. I aim for 2-3 greens into rich at WOT.

my a/f does the same thing and i have gotten code 45, i leaned it out with the v-afc and no code 45 yet, but my a/f still is way in green, and i think im still runnning rich, any ideas to solve our probs, should i leann out using v-afc more, or what???? i dont have fuel pressure meter yet so i dont know what my pressure is??? any suggestions???
